Range Report - Taurus PT111 9mm
I helped a friend buy a new 9mm, and I'm beginning to feel like I didn't really do him a favor. He wanted something for around $300, so I steered him to the Taurus PT111 for $316. It is a nice size, simple operation, reasonable ergonomics, and a good price for brand-name 9mm.
At the range today at least 2 rounds in every magazine did not fire. The primer strikes were shallow, and in three cases there was no firing pin indentation on the primer. All of the dented primer rounds cycled through my CZ P-01 just fine. Accuracy was also not as good as with the CZ. I'd say the groups averaged up to 50% larger with the Taurus. Anyone else experienced problems with a Taurus 9mm? |

No problems with Taurus PT92, in my experience, though I have not had the opportunity to shoot it as much as I would like.
I can't answer for the other models. |
Re: Range Report - Taurus PT111 9mm
Friends don't let friends buy a Taurus! My dad has 3 Taurus revolvers and all 3 of them have been back to the factory for light primer strikes. However, they all work fine since he got them back.

Send it back to the factory. This is unfortunately a recurring problem with a lot of manufacturers these days--quality control. :thumpdown

Thank God I was stupid enough to get a Glock on the first go round. T |

Accuracy I consider acceptable, but not great by any means. |

But I have the PT92, so I dunno about the PT111 (doesn't it have a plastic frame?) http://www.taurususa.com/images/imagesMain/100SS-11.jpg PT92 ^^^^ |
Re: Range Report - Taurus PT111 9mm
Any pistol used for self-defense should be able to feed and fire with extreme reliability any quality factory ammo or quality handloads. If not, you have nothing but a short club...get it fixed or get rid of it. Save up your money and buy a Glock.

The PT-92 is a Beretta clone and I've not heard the complaints about it that I have with the PT-111 and the 24/7, which are a Taurus design. |

I'm thinking about taking out the firing pin and modifying it to permit slightly more travel -- but not enough to pierce the primers. I feel bad about getting this friend into a lemon. Maybe I should have him send it to Taurus first. |

There are a lot of things you could "do", but if it's new and under warranty screwing around with it would probably void the warranty.
Send it back. Light primer strikes are unacceptable. |
